The "goo" mentioned sounds like the stuff in a diaper used to absorb water. I use disposable diapers for various horse hoof wrappings; when they get wet and are left that way for several hours, the stuff in them turns to this nasty goo.

@47.Dawn

Hmmm.. damn.. I was in sainsburys doing a grocery shop and decided I needed to look into to some supplements for womens health when I spotted the Champneys on sale so I though only 10 why not give it a go... better than giving myself Diarrhea with some of those pills and drinks.

So I've taken out the leaflet and read the clains and looked at the sachet which the contents inside already seemed suspiciously like they would darken when wet..

After trying them last night.. and seeing the light brown and slight goo made me even more suspicious, and even so I sleep badly with insomnia all the time... I ended up with less sleep from hot and cold sweats. I only sleep with a vest and noticed my whole chest was wet halfway through the night..

I did find tingling after having it on for a few minutes aswell... I'm the type of person that hardly sweats esp my feet.

Sorry I'm so long winded and it seems the last post was centuries ago.. but I really had to read up on it this morning as I had doubts. Now I just feel like .. oh .. bugger.. no actual hard core evidence and lots of very easy to believe dissing (no wonder it was on sale)... now what..?

But thanks Dawn @47

I have an extremely toxic ''future'' mother in law.. now I know what to do with the rest of these...
Trouble is getting near her with them without dying from the fumes...

Man I couldn't believe when this thing hit the USA market. OF COURSE it's on late nite cable television as the adverts cost less and the can span a large selection of channels.

The thing that TOTALLY BLEW ME AWAY is I have BS already and make it a habit of blowing this pseudoscience up. I am currently back in college to become a High School science teacher and was in a BOTANY and Anatomy& Physiology classes in college when these came on TV.

Well I was totally astonished by the claims. I first off knew HOW the body actually screens toxins using a variety of systems from circulation and lymphatic systems and organs like the spleen liver kidneys intestines, to processes like defacation and micturation (Urine is actually filled with stuff but sterile). So I was baffled to think somehow toxins were migrating to my feet? Do toxins weigh more than the cells? Do they realize that were not hollow? That there are many layers of cells that would need to be permeated and the phospholipid bilayer needs the help of proteins for most stuff outside water to pass through.

BUT THE BEST was the part where they said we work EXACTLY LIKE TREES when TREES take toxins and move them to the roots!!!!
HAHA NO THEY DON'T LOL

In reality trees take nutrients and ions INTO the plant from the roots and in the case of many plants used to mitigate toxic sites take in toxic metals and then they store them in the LEAVES! so HA the opposite of your claims TV fakers!

So I have enjoyed the various responsible and humorous science interested people who wish to debunk the old snake oil salesmen.
UGH Not being able to distinguish real science from these great claims just really gets me I think everyone who scams people should end up in jail but we have really really lax laws started inthe 1900s in the USA dealing with so called homeopathic medicines. They just keep changing tactics and exploiting people.

UGGHHH So I wanna help by TEACHING god help us all LOL>

At least question the authorities ok and ask for proof!

Extrordianry claims require extrordianary proof. NOT anechdotal evidence.

Sorry if I was long you have a great site lol.

@ 50.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. It's not up to me to prove this product is a sham - it's up to the producers to prove that it works.

They claim it is clinically tested. I've seen the tests. I've discussed the tests: they show NOTHING.

You clearly don't understand the concept of placebo: it means the treatment has no distinguishable effect greater than that of the control. Learn some science then come back and lecture me, OK?

Okay, the testing you are doing seems like a repudiation, but in my own use, the placebo or real effect is clear!

They do improve your metabolic state! (Atleast they do for yours truly here.)

Placebo or real then eh?

Your tests are not doing what I want to know, that is the actual metal(s) or other elements the pads are claiming to absorb.

Mass spectrometry and in combination with a series of tests using HPLC for long chain organics.

Anyhow, it just floors me you guys talk about your elementary tests do nothing with the contents of the product after use. You should be ashamed with such a flawed methodology for analysis. Duh!

Okay then it is a placebo with very strong effects according to a number of anecdotal citations.

For me it has worked as well. So go figure that out, placebo or reality, it still provides a positive effect. Also, there are products for fish acquariums and the like sold for the same purpose, to absorb toxins for the health of the organism. Fish are not subject to hype on television, so this supports the product versus some prejudicial view harbored by the test 'science punks' which in this case is an oxymoronic term with less science and more punkitude.

Let us see some mass spec. and HPLC results from a number of samples, manufactured batches of the item and people.

Otherwise leave the cursory distain for such products at the door so that this benign, (likely to be, subject to test results), placebo for people to utilize.

@ 48. Tom
Wow, awesome Tom. In future, instead of carrying out meticulous, large scale clinical trials for new pharmaceutical drugs, we'll just send one single sample to you, and if they work for you, we'll call that proof!

Isn't science great?

I stumbled across the pads on ebay for figured ok they're fairly lets give it a try. They came a couple of days later, I tried them, the following day I felt better than I have in years. That's proof enough for me that they do work.

You guys are wrong! These pads are awesome!

I bought these and gave them to my toxic mother-in-law. The old battle-axe VANISHED!

I owe the Kinoki Foot Pads company big time!

And the pads were a lot cheaper than a divorce and easier than having the woman committed to the state mental hospital.

Also, there is no law in the US about about murder via de-tox.

"Just because something might not be able to be proved or explained yet doesn’t mean that one day it might prove to be correct. I like to try to keep an open mind."

Oops. You know what I meant. Just because we can't prove or explain something today, doesn't mean it won't be proved tomorrow. We don't know EVERYTHING yet. Hey, people once laughed at the idea that the world was round! :)
