Mystery illness leaves 160 dead
August 26th, 2008
A mystery illness has struck residents of the outskirts of Kanpur, an industrial city in northern India. Local health workers are at a loss to explain the outbreak, having ruled out viral fever and malaria:
“We really don’t know what exactly it is; we are depending on the finding of a team of specialists from New Delhi,” said Dr RC Agarwal, the district’s new chief medical officer.
In the absence of any control measures, hundreds of villages have been hit, with thousands of people infected and over 160 left dead. (link)
