Some quick and nasty figures, as obviously this doen’t include additional benfits and training costs, but a PCSO, or hobby bobby, earns a starting salary of £16 000. A proper copper earns £20 397 when they start training and £22,770 when they finish.
Now, is a PCSO two thirds as effective as a Police Officer? Clearly not….

Funny, I was talking about this with someone earlier today. This country is run my insurance companies. Everyone wants to cover themself and not risk their job or getting sued. Ultimately I suppose it all comes down to good old human greed.
From now on I shall refer to PCSOs as ‘plastic flamingoes’.

It’s not just the about a disinclination toward risk; it’s also about accepting solutions that don’t make us any safer.
Much in the same way that flame retardant materials are probably more dangerous than the fires they limit.
